Post Thanksgiving thoughts
Thanksgiving is about a week past now. And I’m left wondering how many of us are actually as thankful as we claimed to be on Thanksgiving Day. Even though this is post-thanksgiving week; which indicates thanksgiving is past, we should never come to a place where we are “past” being thankful.
Thanksgiving should be celebrated each and every day, especially by Christians. As I went over my bills yesterday, I realized that there was no way my income so far would meet my obligations for the month so far. As I began to fret and feel very sorry for myself, a thought occurred to me. I should be saying thank you! Here I sit, in my warm house, ( ok, it’s a trailer…but we paid it off in October!! ) reading my bills by the overhead light…the electricity is still on..and I can smell the chili that is cooking…we have food…and I can hear my little one in his bedroom getting into something else I told him not to…. He is healthy….and wondering why my unemployed husband ( he pastors a small church, which nets him less than $100 many weeks ) doesn’t have a job outside the church…My husband is alive…a friend’s husband just passed away suddenly a few days ago…I began to feel much better and I paid what I could and called and promised to make payments on the things I couldn’t at a later date…which I have faith that the Lord will provide for…He has many times before.
Some scriptures that come to mind are…
Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. (1 Chronicles 16:8)
But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”
These are just a few examples of the joy that we should have when giving thanks. I pray this will help bless your soul and cause you to have reason to be thankful for the little things in your life…even those things that we don’t automatically find thanks in.
